George Harper

Saxophonist George Harper has slipped away….Not a famous name worldwide, but well known in the right circles in this town, and long a member of Phil Ranelin’s various congregations, who made some of the greatest live jazz I have ever heard. He had a pretty unique sound, that George Harper, a pretty unique approach, and his stage demeanor–reticent, almost shy, and quite dignified–was certainly all his own. A lot of great memories of him at the Central Avenue Jazz Festival. In his own way, he is utterly irreplaceable. Rest in peace.
